Landscape painting has carried rich cultural traditions throughout its long history. Ancient artists expressed reverence for nature and their understanding of all things by depicting mountains, rivers, and natural landscapes. This aesthetic pursuit transcends formal beauty, emphasizing spiritual resonance and detachment, embodying a realm of mind beyond material existence.

We must reflect on an unchanging core that has endured through millennia of cultural tradition: the Chinese people’s fundamental awareness rooted in nature, emphasizing the interconnectedness, harmony, and unity of all things in the universe. This aligns with the Chinese philosophical belief of understanding the inner self through observing nature, which constitutes the true core of the "landscape spirit." Based on this understanding, our task is not only to recognize its significance but also to explore how to inherit, innovate, and inject new vitality into this tradition in the modern era.

Wang Zhengzhen’s series Book of Songs and Landscape City Forest integrate Chinese traditional painting techniques with Western art, reinterpreting classical landscapes from a contemporary female perspective. Drawing inspiration from the romantic poetry of the Book of Songs, she infuses the spiritual essence of landscapes into contemporary artistic discourse, paying homage to Chinese traditions innovatively, engaging with Western art, and redefining the relationship between nature, society, and spirit in the new era.
